Prequel, J1004 French Coverall, White

These coveralls are inspired by work jackets worn by French military laborers during the 1930s and 1940s. A standout feature is the large, single type-D pocket on the left side—originally designed to hold tools and small essentials. This detail not only adds functionality but also serves as a subtle design accent, giving the piece both purpose and style.

Versatile enough for a range of modern uses, these coveralls transition easily from workwear to casual everyday or outdoor wear. Built from sturdy summer-weight oxford fabric, they offer both breathability and durability—ideal for long-term, hard-wearing use.

The fabric itself is a careful reproduction of the material used in 1930s French military officer summer trousers. To achieve authenticity, Prequel analyzed an original garment sample, studying the yarn thickness, surface texture, and weave density in detail. The fabric is woven using uneven yarns in both the warp and weft, recreating the character and irregular charm of the original textile.

We first discovered Prequel at a tradeshow in Berlin last year, where their shirts immediately stood out for their extraordinary fabrics—some of the finest we've ever come across. It was a clear decision: we had to bring them to Copenhagen.

Naturally, Prequel hails from Japan 🇯🇵
Their shirt-making craft is rooted in deep history, drawing inspiration from a rare 1907 fabric sample book by Claude Fréres (J. & Co., Paris). With microscopic attention to detail, Prequel revives these vintage textiles, reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens.
